Adopting Through CPHS

Animals are available for adoption to residents living within the adoption area of the CPHS, including Blair, Bedford, Huntingdon, Cambria, Somerset, Centre, and Clearfield counties. Special exceptions can be made for out-of-area adoptions, but CPHS maintains the right to require a home visit, be it by our Humane Officer or another representative of the shelter. While adoptions are not done on a first come, first serve basis, we do not hold animals for viewing.

Please keep in mind that there is no such thing as the “Perfect Pet.” Any adopted animal will require training, patience, and ample time to adjust to their new environment. While we carefully monitor animals surrendered to CPHS, we often have limited knowledge of their backgrounds. We cannot guarantee the health, behavior, age, gender, or breed of any animal adopted from the shelter.

CPHS Adoption Packages

Our base adoption fee for dogs under 6 months is $130 and for dogs over 7 months $80.  For cats the base fee is $30. This base fee covers required vaccinations, shelter ID tags (for dogs), a microchip, deworming, and, for cats, crucial disease screenings. The base adoption fee is applicable to dogs and cats who arrive into CPHS’s care already spayed or neutered.

If a dog or cat is not spayed or neutered, the adoption fee is increased to reflect the cost of the surgery. For puppies up to 6 months, the adoption fee is $230 and dogs over 7 months the fee is $180. Cats and kittens who come to us unaltered are $80. All animals are altered before they are approved for adoption, however for a very young animal that is too young for surgery we may consider the option for you to have your own veterinarian do the spay/neuter surgery when the animal is old enough.   A deposit of $100 for dogs and $50 for cats is required. This deposit is refundable with the presentation of a spay or neuter certificate issued by your veterinarian.
